I am a “childfree by choice” woman who enjoys living life on my own terms, and I consider myself a calculated risk-taker. After just one visit to Nicaragua, my husband and I decided to pack up our clothes and laptops and head to the tropics to start a new life. While my husband finishes building our home made out of recycled shipping containers, I telecommute for a consulting firm based in Washington, DC. I’m proof that you can take elements of a conventional US life/work style and also live outside the box. One of my goals is to motivate women to live their dreams, even if they do not conform to what everyone else is doing.

My professional background is in financial planning/analysis and consulting. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Virginia, an MBA from Duke University, and over 15 years of work experience in both the private and public sectors. In addition to my telecommuting consulting gig, I am also starting an entrepreneurial venture that I am very excited about.

My firm was established in 2003, but I have been in marketing, sales and public relations positions my whole career which began in 1973.

I am a 54 yr old working mother of 5. My youngest 2 are in college, and I have stayed home during most of the time when my children were young. Most of the jobs have been seasonal employment, with some of the later jobs being full- time. I am a creative person with a desire to be in a business that I can use that creativity. The job I have now is a desk job, and to me it is like torture to sit all day, in front of a computer.

At the age of 8, left for Greece to live with my mother who worked as a housekeeper in Athens. Attended Greek public school, where I studied Greek language and... day by day forgot ukrainian, my native langauge. (I must confess it is quite natural for children). AFter a year or so my mum decided to make me study music, piano performance particularly( what I hated most of all at that time)
After 3 sunny years in Greece, my mother married a ukrainian rich man. And here we are - back to Ukrainian "mother"-land... I was 10-11 years old,when I entered ukraianian high school. Now another problem appeared - forgotten ukrainian language + english and francais. ( my school was specialized in modern languages and one of the best in Ukraine). Plus this, my mother made me go to the music school again, and now ...I am extremely thankful to her, because music - is MORE than Joy in my life. Music IS my life. :)
Everyhing was going well, but difficult . But soon, family problems arose. I am sorry, but all my disappointments in men appeared as a result of a TERRIBLE behaviour of my ex father-in-law...
Anyway, constant quarrels, discrimination ( he had older sons), psychological pressure gave a negative effect after 4 years of the marriage. I got the pneumonia. Then my mother divorced thanks God! And then... During the the recovery period I got into hospital again... And this time everything was much more serious - "pneumathorex" - is it the condition of burst lung.
Yes, one morning I woke up, and it was just the year after pneumonia, when I felt a sudden pain. It hurt really much.
Doctor said that I couldn't sing anymore, exercise anymore. Because in most of the cases it burts again, and...the next time I can simply die. That was the life period when I hated my life and my father-in-law, even though he was in the past.
But I successfully got through this. All the time time I was dreaming about leaving Ukraine. I just could wait to leave the country that brought me so much pain. You see, everything reminded me of the past tears and sufferings.
Graduating from school, I was wondering where to go next- which university? I want to enter some abroad university, but we didn't have any money. My mother didn't have any money to support me in this way. And she didn't believe it was possible at all. So, I applied for full scholarship at the American University in one of the european countries. I was studying, studying and studying for TOEFL and SAT tests and finally... I got the the email from that unversity "AN ACCEPTANCE LETTER!" :) ANd it was one of the happiest days in my life! :)
Now I study at that university, and still working on my piano compositions. I have many plans about my career, but I will never come back for life to Ukraine again for sure.
I must say, I am not proud of not being a patriot. But what else can I do?
Maybe I will have to marry some European person, maybe I will have to change my citizenship,but it doesn't mean anything to me.
I am only 18 years old, and I achieved many things in my life. It is not the END, but a happy BEGINNING! :)
