Are You Making This Mistake with Your Website?

Your website can be an amazingly powerful tool for marketing your business and attracting lots of raving fans and ideal clients. It can help you grow your business, make more money and get your big message out into the world to help those you are meant to help.
Your website needs to be set up properly to accomplish this, though. And it can be easy to unconsciously make mistakes with your site that make it ineffective and keep you from getting the results that you most want with your website.
One of the biggest mistakes that business owners often make with their website is simply trying to put too much on it. And then asking visitors to the website to do too many things. There seems to be a belief that says you need to put everything you can think of on your website, and offer everything that you have to offer to those visitors.
In fact, the opposite is true! When you give visitors too many options, and too much info to read, it actually makes your site confusing and overwhelming for them. They won’t be able to decide what they need to focus on, or how to take the next step with you, and they will likely just click away from your site.
On the other hand, when your website is focused on ONE most important action that you want visitors to take, then it makes it super easy for them to 1) identify if this is the right place for them and 2) take that action that you want them to take to learn more and go further with you.
It may seem counter-intuitive, but giving your website visitors fewer options will actually make your website more effective!
So what is that ONE most important action that you want your website visitors to take?
In most cases, I would say that ONE most important action will be to sign up for your email list, and you do this by offering them a fabulous free gift that they get in exchange for giving you their email address.
Building your email list should be the main goal of your website. People online typically need to come in contact with you at least seven times before they will buy from you, so you need to be able to follow up with them and let them get to know you.
If you don’t do this step, then most of your website visitors will come and go, without ever contacting you or purchasing. Many of them are probably interested in what you’re offering, they just aren’t ready to buy right now and instead they will click away and promptly forget about you.
And those clicks away are sales lost, and missed opportunities to connect with the people that you are here to help.
When you offer an irresistible free gift right off the bat, it gives them something to get started with, and gives you a way to keep in touch with them, and let them get to know you so you’re top of mind when they are ready to take the next step and buy.
If you’re not yet building an email list through your website, stop leaving money on the table and get started collecting those email addresses today!
It’s easy to get started. You just need an irresistible free gift, which can be in whatever format works for you (PDF, audio, video, ecourse, etc) and should be something that is relevant, interesting and attractive to your ideal client. Your free gift should help them get results even before they buy from you, and lead into your paid offerings.
Be sure to use a professional email marketing service to manage your list as you build it. I recommend Aweber.com or MailChimp.com, and there are a variety of other options, both paid and free services.
And if you’re not sure how to set it all up, then get some help with it. It’s well worth the investment to hire someone who knows what they’re doing to set up this vital piece for you!
Once you have this piece in place, your website will be much more effective in helping to grow your business. And that email list you build will be a valuable asset for your business for years to come as you use it to connect with your ideal clients and offer them the products and services that will help them to get the results they are looking for.
