I read today about local businesses raising money from their own communities, like through selling "store credit" for $1000 and offering a $500 additional bonus for buying.
I think this is a great idea.
We have a family-owned business ourselves and I've often thought about if this is something we can sustain through the next generation, to give my children something that takes care of them, as well as something they can take care of.
I think that the backbone of our society is local businesses -- they are the ones with the biggest support from, and the biggest responsibility to, their community. I also think that many of us can take up a side or home-based business to begin with --- to encourage money to circulate and travel throughout our local economy instead of being sent to some other city or state far away.

To begin your home-based business you'll need a desk and chair, an idea, and a burning passion to succeed.
