When it comes to choosing your place of work, there are a variety of things that need to be taken into consideration. Many people are quick to jump to the conclusion that money is what matters most, but often times there are plenty of other things that are actually more important. If you're going to be heading into the office five times a week for years to come, you owe it to yourself to find a company that fosters a hospitable work environment. 

Money isn't everything; here are a few things to consider when looking for the perfect place to work.

Employee Synergy

Employee synergy is one of the most important things to think about when looking for a place to work. If there is little to no synergy in a workplace, you're bound to stumble upon problems throughout a given work day. When employees work together in harmony, they get more things done in a given day and tend to enjoy healthier lifestyles. Look for a company that fosters employee synergy; you might wish to talk to current employees about what a specific work environment is like before seeking employment there.

Employee Perks

There's nothing better than feeling as if you are appreciated at your place of work. Many companies don't put enough stock in this, but the fact is that it is an extremely important thing to consider. Employers that offer a reward program and other, similar perks are worth looking for, as this is a sign that they truly care about their employees. 

Office Environment

The layout of an office can have a dramatic effect on one's state of mind, and should never be underestimated. Office environments that are cold, drab and full of cubicles can be depressing to say the least. Those which offer an open-concept layout, on the other hand, are much more enjoyable to work in. Look for offices that feature bright colors, comfortable furniture and look more like living rooms than typical offices. Marketing firms and ad agencies tend to be laid out in such a way, as do tech firms; the more "hip" the business, the more likely it is you'll find a comfortable office environment. 

Finding the right place to work is one of the hardest things a person can strive to do. If you put the right amount of work into the process, however, you'll be sure to stumble upon a work environment that you'll be comfortable working in for many years to come.
