Entering a Career in Social Work

Social Work Guide, from socialworkguide.com

Most of my posts on this site relate to continuing success, motivation, and increasing knowledge about health and wellness, work and career, relationships, and finances. Many of our readers are advancing their education through formal schooling and converting life experience into university and college credits.

Females traditionally move into "caring" positions, and the field of social work is no different, with over 80% of positions as licensed social workers filled by women.

Social workers in the United States are required to hold a Ph.D. or DSW, a master's degree, or a bachelor's from an accredited program. Most states require social workers to be licensed and to pass the social work exam - California has its own licensing requirements.

The exam itself requires thorough study and includes questions on DSM-IV-TR disorders, psychiatric pharmaceuticals, and social work assessments and evaluations.

Independent Study, Inc invites those who are preparing to take the social work licensing exam to take advantage of their special on ASWB study guides, which include comprehensive review of all ASWB content areas, 170 practice questions, and resources and references.

For those of you who are doing your best -- in social work and other caring professions, or within your daily lives -- to support the women, men, children, and families who make up our communities, thank you.
