Google+: Reaching for the right tool

Professional carpenters are distinguished from inept nail benders by their knowledge of what tools best match certain tasks. Unlike the person whose only tool is a hammer, social media users should view Google+ for what it is, not what some wish it were; it’s another tool. Just as a craftsperson wouldn’t use a chisel to do what a jig-saw could do better, networkers will do well to learn what applications best fit this new social networking implement. So far, those moving from early adopters to regular users seem to have figured out just that.

I'm re-reading some of my favorite books from Paulo Coehlo: this time it's his first novel, "The Pilgrim", which is about his road through the pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostela.

There is an interesting section when his guide gives him a talking-to, and he realizes that he has been wandering the same section of the path for seven days because he has been so focused on his end result (the destination), rather than noticing what is happening around him, including the road, the scenery, the mountain, and the details on the path.

The root word of education is educare, which means "to rear." When we rear our inner child, we educate ourselves: we raise up our young, immature, selfish self and we use knowledge and experience to become stronger, more aware, and more able to share.
