Booklist: What Color is Your Parachute?
Richard Nelson Bolles’ book is a classic for anyone in transition over their career.
The questions he poses may be deep ones that you might not be prepared to answer. However, the exercises within the book will help you think through your career and work alternatives from the perspective of your unique abilities.
My dad gave me this book as a gift when I graduated from college, and when I worked through the exercises, I realized how important it was for me to thoughtfully go through, page by page, my own life story. One exercise challenges you to identify twelve times in your life where you have felt the most alive and free: these are typically good indicators of the skills that you enjoy using.
When you start to ask the questions that Bolles poses, you start to unlock the full creativity and potential of your capability, and the straightforward approach and categorizing within the book will be of real assistance to anyone facing the question of “What do I do next?”
