Tip 17. Dig Deep: Provide “Ask the Expert” Pages
Whether you consider yourself an expert or not, if you’re in business, you’re providing deep knowledge and skills in a particular content area to your customers. This knowledge does qualify you as an expert! When you use your website to share your expertise, you provide a valuable resource for your customers and potential customers.
An easy way to share some answers to commonly-asked questions is to offer a column or regularly-updated section comprised of commonly-asked questions and your answers, tools, or recommendations.
For example, “Ask the Interior Decorator” may have a section with design tips for challenging spaces, or green versions of common home furnishings. “Ask the Painter” may have recommendations on colors, paint brands, or how to estimate coverage. “Ask the Financial Expert” may display your particular expertise on stock picks, market trends, industry information, or retirement-related concerns.
Because people who are visiting your website want to know your general “tone” and personality, using this section as a way to promote your expertise will help your visitors decide if you’re the one they want to hire for their specific, similar project. Furthermore, if you are on the receiving end of many types of questions, directing visitors to your “Ask the Expert” page gives you a place to answer common questions and gives your visitor a place to begin their conversation with you.
