Business Builder #8: Express Yourself in Multiple Ways
March 1st, 2008People learn differently, so if you’re going to reach them, you’ll need to reach them through multiple avenues.
In Toastmasters, an easy way to give your speech is to:
1) Tell ‘em what you’re going to tell them.
2) Tell them.
3) Tell ‘em what you told them.
When toddlers are learning, they love repetition. If you’re going to reach the grown-ups, repetition is still your friend.
Tell people what you are going to say.
Tell people what you want to say.
Tell people what you just said.
When you provide your materials in many different formats, you satisfy different learning needs such as aural learning (I need to hear your information to understand it), written learning (I need to read your information to understand it), kinesthetic learning (I need to act out your information to understand it), and experiential learning (give me workshops, quizzes, demonstrations, and hands-on presentations so I may understand your information).

Ways to provide this information include doing a voice message, through your own microphone and sound software. If you’re doing interviews, you may record your interview through a service like freeconference.com. Upload your .mp3 or quicktime file to your website and place it in a prominent spot.
Create a FAQs page that clearly lists your products, services, and procedures. Link to this page from your web navigation and print it out to include in your promotional materials.
Use a videographer to capture a brief infomerical: 30 seconds is enough. Place this infomercial on your website, on your homepage or in a “multimedia” section. Offer a photo montage with images related to your site, your service center, or your projects. Keep the action moving.
Schedule some in-person demonstrations or online demonstrations so people may try out your work. A 30-day free trial period might fit your situation. Consider scheduling call-ins where you do a brief demo and answer questions from callers. At a fair, festival, or gathering, offer a booth with an activity related to your service.
When you are sensitive to all the different ways that your potential customers learn about you, you will make an extra effort to clarify your message. Express yourself!
